Meet Brenda…A temp with a bad attitude, but an excellent work ethic.

Working assignments all around Los Angeles, Brenda was the official purse holder for a high powered event planner, has had an employer ask about her ovulation cycle, worked as a kiosk gypsy at an upscale mall and suffered as the reluctant muse for a frustrated architect who'd rather write screenplays on company time.

Off the clock, Brenda's boyfriend and best friend compete for her attention while she spends a little too much time with guy she met on a job. Brenda’s positive she can handle it all, but sometimes work and life get to be a bit too much even for someone as organized as Brenda.

The Brenda Diaries. All the dirty details of Brenda’s not so tidy life.

The Brenda Diaries eBook Margo Candela

When I started this book, I was initially charmed by the breezy tone and the diary format. Unfortunately, the charm wore off as I started becoming bored and irritated by the actual story.

Brenda's maturity level is lacking, but the character was consistent and I was left hoping she would grow up a bit. I didn't see a lot of kindness or empathy in her and she seemed to take the people in her life for granted. She wasn't likeable enough to get my sympathy and she wasn't unlikeable or quirky enough to hold my interest.

Bluntly, there wasn't enough humor (or I didn't appreciate the humor well enough) to keep me entertained, there wasn't enough plot to keep my attention, and I didn't care about any of the characters enough to maintain interest in them. Any one of the three would have redeemed this in my eyes; I wasn't expecting great literature, but I was expecting more entertainment than I found.

The other reason this gets 3 stars is that the actual story is shorter than I expected and instead I found pages of tweets mirroring the story development. Having just read the story, I wasn't interested in recapping via tweets and didn't find them funny enough to read through.

The Brenda Diaries eBook Margo Candela Reviews

Brilliant. Just loved it! When the movie comes out, I sure hope Zoe Deschannel will play Brenda because that's who I pictured through the entire book. Truly, this was a delightful read from start to finish. You've done an excellent job and I can see this being a best seller. Your dialogue was pitch perfect, the humor spot on, and the pacing pleasingly quick. Congratulations on an excellent book.
I deleted at 3% because I really don't want to read about other people's sex lives. When you already have two distasteful comments about sex in the first few pages, I know it is something I am not interested in.
The diary entries did not progress fast enough for me. The entries were random and didn't seem to lean towards a plot. I got tired of reading about Jared being the boyfriend/non boyfriend and Maya being a lazy moocher , and Glen's business.
Wish it would have paced faster and introduced something more interesting sooner.
The diary section was amusing but re-reading it over in tweets was funnier. A good light read that was entertaining and funny.
I enjoyed reading The Brenda Diaries. It was a pleasant, light read. I enjoy stories about everyday people, without violence or gore. This was just what I was looking for. The only things that distracted me were the misspellings, and the incorrect usage of conscious instead of conscience. The diary entries were followed by a series of Twitter messages for the same dates. It was an interesting technique. I wish the author would have added just a touch of more information to the twitter entries. I would recommend that you read this book.
The Brenda diaries follows a young woman through her life as she temps her way to greatness and navigates the troubled waters of friendship and relationship. Her ascorbic wit and devil may care attitude coupled with a love of laundry leaves me wishing I knew someone like that and yet sure that of I did she would make fun of me in her diary. Brenda is a refreshing character of independent girl power. Her Twitter feed is also hilarious.
I just got my so I have been going through the list of ebooks available and found this one. I am a lover of chick lit and I really adore the 'diary entry' format so this book seemed perfect for me.

I loved, loved it!!! I was hooked from the very first diary entry and I love the raw humor in this book. I swear Brenda is the guy in this story and it was hilarious.

I think the only little comment that is negative would be the fact that a) the story is too short and b) I would have put the tweets next to the corresponding diary entry - much easier to follow.

Otherwise, this was a wonderful and entertaining chick lit read.
