EXTRACT
A dark shadow appeared out of nowhere next to the soldier. He loosened his grip on my hair and a warm, sticky liquid splashed my face. The jarhead's blood had gushed from his throat like a scarlet geyser, his sunglasses had fallen off his nose, and his bulging lifeless eyes were staring at me without seeing me anymore.
The soldier instinctively grabbed his neck to stop the bleeding, but it was the last, futile gesture of a dead man. I trembled like a leaf, paralyzed by fear and hypnotized by this horrible scene. The shadow turned into a young slender woman with short red hair, who held the soldier to feast on his blood. She wore a black lacy tank top and Capri pants, and her natural elegance contrasted strongly with the grisly act she was committing.
Behind her, another vampire was finishing off the three soldiers who tried to rescue their partner. They had been annihilated before they had time to pull the trigger. I could distinguish their killer’s features now. He was young, muscular and tanned, and his thick, blonde wavy hair shone in the golden sunset. Dressed in a red T-shirt and beige linen trousers, he reminded me of the criminal surfer played by Patrick Swayze in Point Break. One thing was for sure he didn’t look like the stereotypical deathly pale vampire....

It's a good read. Much better that some of the books I've read about vampires. The book reads fast. Like
So-so story. The vampire society was an interesting idea, but it didn't get very well developed. The rest was rather predictable.
This story has an interesting twist to it. Not your typical vampire love story. A good read if you enjoy something a little more violent and less romantic.
Got it for free on bookbub.com and it's terrific! A great new take one vampires. I got it because I'm a Zonie but kept reading because it was so good. I can't wait to read more. I wouldn't feel bad if I'd paid for it and have no problems paying for subsequent books.
An interesting original take on vampire lore but still too odd and too confusing for my taste.does however have a point in that good and evil are always going to battle each other and that both sides always believe they are the right one .And it also points out it can be difficult sometimes to see the truth .
I found myself debating whether to give this a 2 star rating vs a 3 star ..... I liked the story even though I found the main character so wishy washy ... but the ending ...did not like it all. I would read another book by this Author because the story line was good. The ending felt (to me) like a synopsis instead of an actual ending. Sorry Gregory.
This book started slow, but kept my interest enough I kept reading. About 1/2 way in it started getting interesting and towards the end i couldn't put it down. I loved how even after the girl learned who she was and how much strength it gave her she used it to try and protect the people that brought her up. At the end of the book she was still wondering what if.
